For more than twenty years I have worked across theatre, facilitation, media, youth work, community development and social enterprise, not as separate careers, but as one continuous practice built around a single question:
How do people find the courage to act when it matters most?
I Have Worked at Every Level
My career has never been confined to one room or one sector.
I have facilitated workshops with young people in schools and with senior teams in institutions. I have negotiated stage presence for performers with BBC production teams. I have pitched for funding in boardrooms and delivered in community halls. I have managed a 4.2 million SEK national partnership with Kulturrådet and built grassroots organisations from nothing.
I understand how decisions get made at the top.
I understand what gets lost by the time those decisions reach the ground.
That gap between policy and practice, between leadership intention and lived reality, is exactly where my work sits.
A Track Record Across Sectors
Over two decades, I have worked with and alongside:
I have managed budgets, led teams, negotiated contracts, designed programmes and reported to institutional funders.
I have also performed on stage, facilitated in prisons, directed youth theatre and run weekly community sessions for 1,400 participants.
That range is not a distraction from my expertise.
It is the foundation of it.
From Performance to Practice
My early career was built in performance, dance, street culture and media.
Working in Bristol's Black arts and community radio scene, I learned how culture creates connection, builds confidence and gives voice to people whose experiences are routinely overlooked.
As Sales Manager at Ujima Radio, Bristol's leading Black community radio station. I developed commercial partnerships, managed a team of twenty and grew revenue through a model built on community trust and institutional relationships.
Over time, my focus shifted from performance to participation.
I became increasingly interested in what happens when people are not just watching a story but stepping into it.
That interest led me to Forum Theatre, and to the work I do today.
Why Forum Theatre
Forum Theatre offers something that most training cannot.
Instead of discussing difficult situations in theory, participants explore them together, test different responses and rehearse action in a safe, structured environment.
I use it because it works across every level of an organisation.
A CEO and a frontline worker can sit in the same room, watch the same scene and arrive at genuinely different insights. A student and a teacher can rehearse the same moment from opposite sides.
That is rare.
And in my experience, it is where real change begins.
The Story Behind the Method
My journey has taken me from the stages and streets of Bristol to the schools and institutions of Malmö.
Along the way I have been a performer, a director, a radio presenter, a sales manager, a youth worker, a community organiser, a media trainer and an entrepreneur.
I have worked inside systems and outside them.
I have seen what happens when institutions have the right values but the wrong tools.
I have seen what happens when communities have the right instincts but no platform.
Forum Theatre became my method because it bridges those two worlds.
It is rigorous enough for institutions.
It is honest enough for communities.
It is practical enough for both.
Through Papilion
Through Papilion, I work with schools, municipalities, organisations and leadership teams to create spaces where difficult questions can be explored practically and safely.
Whether the subject is racism, exclusion, belonging, student voice, team culture or organisational change, the approach is the same:
People are more likely to change behaviour when they have had the opportunity to rehearse it.
Papilion is the professional structure through which that work is delivered, developed and scaled.
Looking Forward
At fifty, my focus is clear.
I am building Papilion into a sustainable platform, developing programmes, partnerships and resources that help schools, organisations and communities move from conversation to action.
I am also developing the next generation of facilitators: people who can carry this method into rooms I cannot reach alone.
Because the work is bigger than one person.
But it starts with one person being willing to hold the room.
